I had one of the most epic battles with a fish this morning. After not getting a single bite fishing for bass in over an hour, I switched to an ultralight tackle (ultralight crappie rod with 4 lb fluorocarbon line) with 1.5 inch crappie jig. I then took my kayak to a tree and dropped the jig only to hook something that immediately bent my rod! I had no idea what I had hooked but I knew it was big. My reel screamed and my rod bent like it was a blade of grass. I fought it for 20 minutes using all of my skills, and skills I wish I had, in fighting the fish while it dragged me and the kayak. After an exhausting but fun battle, I finally brought it to the surface and saw I had a huge buffalo fish on my line. The fish and I were both exhausted and I was able to reel the fish in close to the yak only to find out it was a lot smarter than me🤣. When I reached for its tiny mouth to grab it and to take the hook out (I had forgotten to bring my net), it gave one final kick to break the line and got away. I think I’m going to get rid of all of my bass gear (~18 rods and reels) and only keep my ultralight rigs to fish for buffalo fish since that was the most fun I had in a long time🤣🤣🤣!!!
